About Kylee Wetsel:

Kylee has been crucial in establishing San Diego Legion Rugby as part of the surrounding San Diego community, providing kids the opportunity to explore the game of rugby and its values with actual professional Legion players. The programming has enriched the lives of children across San Diego county, especially in lower income, lesser served areas. In the last 2 years Kylee has lead the effort in providing free rugby in PE classes at over 150 San Diego schools and established the first Imagine Flag Rugby League in Escondido, providing a safe and free rugby experience to underprivileged children in all 23 Escondido Union School District schools. Kylee has also played a critical role in delivering the State Games of America, leading the organization of the rugby programming. She has done all of this while going to school full-time. Kylee looks to move onto law school in the coming year.

Kylee has grown tremendously in a short amount of time. Starting as a shy-ish team owners’ daughter, unsure of the value she was bringing to the organization, Kylee has grown into a confident community director leading groups of men to enrich the lives of children through rugby. She has established herself as a role model to other girls and women in the industry, maintaining a strong focus on growth and delivery, while showing compassion and understanding to the children, teachers and parents. Kylee sits on the board of directors for the Legion Community Foundation and is part of a local girls’ rugby organization focused on providing girls more opportunities to play. Kylee’s family and San Diego Legion also donated a gymnasium to the Chula Vista Olympic training center used by the USA Eagles Women’s 7s team.

Kylee led the charge in putting on the rugby portion of the State Games of America, donating her time to ensure that kids can play in an “Olympic” style competition, visualizing their dreams while on the pitch. Kylee led a group of 15 professional rugby players to implement Imagine flag rugby programming in PE classes at over 150 schools in San Diego, providing kids with lifelong memories and ingratiating the program to the teachers. Kylee led the establishment of the first Imagine Flag Rugby league with all 23 schools in the Escondido Union School district, providing over 400 kids the opportunity to play flag rugby while being coached by Legion professional rugby players. Sustainability: Through Kylee’s tireless efforts in implementing Imagine Rugby Flag programming, the Legion Community Foundation is now covering the costs of its own programming for the first time in its history
