SD Legion makes their picks for the USMLR Collegiate 2023 Draft!

Major League Rugby (MLR) just finished its fourth annual Collegiate Draft! Thirty-nine North America's best young rugby players were selected over three rounds. The San Diego Legion have selected: 1st Pick: James Rivers, 2nd Pick: Tyrene Al-Jiboori, 3rd Pick: Michael Ramos, 4th Pick: Joseph Hawthorne. James started playing rugby when he was six years old in England, then moved to Hong Kong, where he continued to play before attending boarding school in England at Clifton College. He then played for Hong Kong U20s in 2018 and 2019 at the World Trophy before attending the University of Arizona for four years, where he captained Arizona his senior year. Tyren played in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in a family of Rugby Players. In 2016 he was named a High School All Americans 7s team that competed at the Las Vegas Invitational. He was selected to represent the US U-18s at the 2018 Youth Olympics. After his Freshman season at Lindenwood, he was named to the USA Rugby All Americans 7s 2nd Team. In 2022 He earned College Rugby Association of America 1st Team All-American honors. In 2022 he was also named to the US U-23s team. Joseph is a 24-year-old Rugby athlete from Hudson, Ohio. He recently graduated from St Bonaventure University, obtaining his master's. He is also a D1 All-American and rugby east conference second team nominee. He plays loosehead prop, hooker, and blindside flanker.
