San Diego takes on the Seattle Seawolves, June 30, for postseason match

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 27, 2018) – San Diego is making sports history! Major League Rugby (MLR) launched its inaugural season in the United States this year, with San Diego Legion making big moves for the newly-formed professional sports league and American Rugby. Finishing the regular season in MLR’s #3 seed, San Diego Legion has secured a spot in the MLR Championship Series. This grand, first-ever event will kickoff with the MLR Playoffs on Saturday, June 30 in Glendale, CO at Infinity Park. San Diego Legion will take on the Seattle Seawolves (#2 seed team) beginning at 4 p.m. PT.

“Since the start, the goal we put in front of us as a coaching staff and playing group was to end up in the Major League Rugby Playoffs and be in a good place entering postseason,” said General Manager & President Matt Hawkins. “We knew we would grow in confidence and competitiveness through the season and this has been a part of the planning process. Something we’ve been saying to ourselves: ‘It’s not about how we start, but where we finish.’ With that in mind, we still hope to officially end the season here in San Diego on July 7.”

The MLR Championship Series will begin on Saturday, June 30, which includes single-game elimination, doubleheader matches between the top four teams—Glendale Raptors, Seattle Seawolves, San Diego Legion and Utah Warriors. Both MLR Playoff games will be televised by CBS Sports Network and streamed online through CBS platforms, with kickoff beginning at 4 p.m. PT. Based on the results from each match, the two winning teams will advance to the MLR Championship on July 7 in San Diego, CA at Torero Stadium. The Championship match will also be available live on CBS Sports Network.
