SAN DIEGO, Calif. (September 8th, 2022) - Charlie Purdon, the Head Coach of the University of San Diego, has been appointed the Lead Coach of the Legion Community Foundation. Having played rugby professionally for Natal Sharks age-grade teams, Edinburgh ‘A’ and the San Diego Breakers, Purdon also brings a decorated coaching resume to Legion, where he will be focusing on the Legion Academy, in addition to applying his wealth of expertise and knowledge to both the community and performance development pathways.

Purdon says “I am extremely passionate about the San Diego rugby community - they have been so good to me since I arrived here in 2016. I am very excited to continue facilitating the development of aspiring players and the sport in a more professional sense through the Legion Community Foundation. Additionally, I feel privileged to be able to continue my own professional development as a coach under SDL Head Coach Danny Lee [and SDL Assistant Coaches] Jack Wiggins and Scott Murray.”
